The Basics of Curing Acne: Hygiene
Having a clear complexion is a gift not everyone can have. And it is more common for people especially teenagers to develop acne and scars that are unsightly. Many regimens are available in curing acne which includes over the counter products, observing acne diets, and many others, plus online resources like acne eBooks. But the initial step to become successful in combating acne is by understanding how the skin works and all other stuff that goes with it. So let’s get started.
The skin is known to be the largest organ in the body, covering a surface of approximately 20 square feet. It contributes to approximately 15 percent of our body weight. Also, it is the body’s first line of defense by preventing harmful bacteria from entering and invading other organ systems and as a shield from all the elements like the sun, wind, rain, as well as everyday objects in getting into contact with other internal body parts.
Fast facts about the skin: For every square inch of skin, there are over 9 million cells and 20000 of which are sensory cells, a hundred sebaceous glands, 78 yards of nerves with 1300 nerve endings, 19 yards of blood vessels, and 650 sweat glands. Hygiene plays an important role when it comes to acne. And here are just some of the things that you should remember to help us with our fight against acne.
Avoid using toners with high alcohol content as it strips the outer layer of the skin and makes it dry that would trigger the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. Over washing can leave your skin dry too and may irritate skin further so try to limit it to two (2) per day. Do not pick or squeeze acne as bacteria may be forced deeper into the skin. This can result in more inflammation, infection, and scarring.
Use cleansers and scrubs that are more gentle to the skin. Make sure that the grains are small and smooth. Using products with shell fragments like in almonds can cause scratches and damage to the skin. Lessen the occurrence of you touching your face as it can cause bacteria to get further down the pores and cause infection once trapped.
When you sweat after a workout or any other activity, moisture, oil, heat, and dirt gets trapped in your pores. So make it a point to shower to prevent bacteria from building up and aggravating your acne. Lastly, don’t waste your efforts with stuff that don’t work. Try various kinds of acne treatments and regimens to see what works and stick with it.
