How To Use Natural Skin Care For Nappy Rash On Your Infant On Your Baby

Nobody wants nappy rash, not baby, not daddy and mummy and not anybody in shouting distance. With the best will in the world, no parent can be vigilant 24 hours a day, every day. It is inevitable that most infants between 9 and 12 months of age will develop a sore, red bottom. This is caused by the contents of baby’s nappy coming into contact with their delicate skin. The thought of putting harsh chemicals in contact with their baby does not appeal to most parents. This is where natural skin care for nappy rash comes in useful.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Nappy rash is inevitably caused by nappies. The best way to avoid it is to let your baby go commando as often and as long as possible. Just let them lay on a layer of absorbent material and mop up as necessary. Of course, this is not always practical, for example, on public transport or in the shops.

Next to letting your infant go commando, the best approach is to use cloth nappies without a watertight covering like plastic or rubber pants. This allows dampness to be drawn away from the skin. Not only does this help hold back the tears, it is the most environmentally friendly solution as well as the most economical.

Disposable nappies are the most convenient way of managing an infant’s biological waste. Many years ago these were horrible layers of flimsy cotton wool stuck between two thin layers of plastic that did more to hold moisture inside the nappy, close to baby’s skin. Today’s disposables are technologically much more highly evolved and do work to draw moisture away from the skin. They are far more convenient than cloth nappies.

Frequent changes and scrupulous cleansing with gentle products go a long way towards protecting sensitive skin. Special baby balms containing calming ingredients like calendula or camomile also help soothe baby’s bottom.

A naturopath might recommend the use of egg whites applied to the nappy area after changing and cleansing with cooled boiled water and cotton wool. Simply apply a thin layer, dry gently with a blow dryer on the ‘cool’ setting and repeat until a layer of about three coats has built up.

Even the most dedicated carer cannot always avoid their baby experiencing this common ailment. In this case, zinc oxide is a great benefit and will clear up the problem fairly quickly, when you can return to gentler and better-smelling methods. Surprisingly, these creams are made from completely natural ingredients and may be used with a clear environmental conscience.

Natural skin care is critical no matter what the age of the person. Natural baby products should be the preferred choice for your baby.
